TOP TIPS TO DECORATE LIKE A STYLIST

TOP TIPS TO DECORATE LIKE A STYLIST

Moving into your new home design by DRHomes is exhilarating. There is so much build up; from first signing a contract, selecting the colours, flooring and tapware to the moment you turn the key and enter your finished home in its entirety.

In spite of the window blinds, the house is a blank canvas, it is up to you to decorate and turn your empty house into an inviting home. Here are some decorating ideas to get you on your way to being a stylist:

Go bold - decorate with colour.

Don’t be afraid to use bold splashes of colour throughout your home whether it be with cushions or accessories. Colour is a great way to inject your personality into your home and create a mood as soon as you step into a room.

Something old, something borrowed and something blue.

Most often heard at weddings - we think why not use this rule with your new home, especially the something old. We’ve built you a brand new, modern house and a great way to give your home some instant character and personality is with some pieces of history. Have fun shopping at antique stores or garage sales for one off pieces of furniture or unique accessories.

Want to turn your house into a home instantly? Frame old photographs of your family and friends and hang or place on side tables and bookshelves.

Bed linen

The bedroom should be the first place you start decorating. After all, you probably spend the most time here. Our only suggestion is choose a colour and linen that makes you happy. Make it a calming, happy place to promote restful sleep.

*Hot tip – want to give your room an air of luxury, go crazy with cushions. Yes, a certain someone may go crazy taking them off the bed every night before they go to sleep but it’s a sure way from turning your bed from drab to fab!

Rugs

Most of our home designs are open plan, utilising one flooring cover throughout your kitchen, lounge room and dining room. For open plan living, rugs are a fantastic way to define particular areas. It also injects colour into a room if you have chosen neutral furnishings.

Prints and Art

When you move into your new home, your walls are going to be bare. Nothing fills a room better than adding your personal photos, art or prints to the walls. Don’t feel like you have to spend loads on an art piece, the most simple things can look good paired with furniture, lamps and other accessories.

Remember, though we would all love to go a bit gung-ho with decorating, be sure to take your time and make smart decisions with your purchases. Use old and even temporary furniture to get you by while you decide on the style of your home.

At the end of the day, choose home décor to suit your tastes – you’ll feel more at home.
